GeoVisions First Alumni Outcomes Survey

Coding Not Required

In May and June 2016 GeoVisions surveyed 2,260 Alumni starting with the returnees of 2007.

Responses were humbling.  Not only were our programmatic goals met and exceeded, outcomes we never could have imagined became front and center of the GeoVisions experience.  Our WHY was confirmed in the outcomes from each Alum.

Did your GeoVisions experience improve your self confidence?

86% Yes
14% No

From time to time, all of us need to boost our self confidence.  It helps in our relationships, meeting people, job or school performance to name only a few.  Realizing we all make mistakes is a huge part of gaining more self confidence.  As our Alumni sent notes with their answers we found out that a GeoVisions experience helped them find their strengths and weaknesses, to accept compliments (which allowed them to compliment themselves) and they learned how to use criticism as a learning experience.  Overall, the alum found it was easier to stay cheerful and have a positive outlook on life when they were performing their duties on their program.

If your resume includes fluency in a second language, your chances of employment in today’s economy are much greater for you than for those who speak only one language.

Multilingual people are able to communicate and interact within multiple communities. Potential employers consider this a valuable asset in an employee’s skill set, as they’re able to connect with a broader range of people. In this new age of start-ups, companies are increasingly breaking into new markets. You up your personal and professional value if you’re able to negotiate with manufacturers in another country or communicate with customers who don’t speak your native language.

Not to mention, your ability to speak a second language conveys that you’re motivated and driven to learn new skills, and this also gives you a competitive edge over those who haven’t yet become bilingual.

My GeoVisions experience gave me the ability to adapt in diverse workplace environments.

Real Experiences. Real People.

Our reasons for traveling have changed over the years.  GeoVisions is constantly examining our purpose so we can articulate why we do what we do. Why we get out of bed in the morning, why our company even exists and why that should matter to anyone else.

We have learned that many travelers expect to volunteer in the country they visit.  And, they want to work there, too.  Furthermore, when they return home, they expect — and are reaping — tangible personal and professional benefits from their experiences abroad.

My experience with GeoVisions gave me a better understanding of myself and my values.

Reviews From Around The Globe

A small sampling of comments we received on the survey:

My experience with GeoVisions was a defining point in my life! I taught English in Thailand for about one year. I connected with my students, made so many new friends from all over the world, grew in self-confidence, and increased my understanding of Thailand and the Southeast Asian region tenfold.

The staff at GeoVisions were instrumental in making my experience seamless and in giving me the encouragement I needed to take the leap from an office job in Washington, D.C. to teaching in Thailand.

I am now working in the Social Work field, but because of my GeoVisions experience, I have a more international focus. I will definitely use GeoVisions again in the future if I have the opportunity to do something like this again!

It was by far the best experience I have done. It pushed me outside my comfort zone and I loved it. I couldn’t have asked for a better family to stay with and experience Spain with.

“Working as an au pair for GeoVisions in Spain not only helped me to improve my Spanish communication skills, but also allowed to me to be a part of a Spanish community in a way that I never would have been able to experience as a tourist.”

“GeoVisions helped make my dream of European travel come true! I’m still very close to the family I lived with while in Seville Spain. GeoVision provided the perfect opportunity for me to pursue my dream of travel and helped me find a safe, clean and enriching environment to live while I traveled.”

“The GeoVisions Walk & Talk program changed my life, and I constantly find myself wishing I could move back to Spain to take care of my niños again.  From the second I landed in the airport, my host family made me feel like I was an important part of their lives.  Throughout my time with them, I was not only able to help with the childcare and their English homework, but I was able to practice my Spanish skills and be completely immersed in the culture.  I hope that everyone gets the opportunity to do such a program as the one I went on with GeoVisions – for both their own sake and the lives that they’ll change in the process.”

“Geovisions is great for anyone at any age.  I did it 15 years into my career as I wanted a new challenge.  I had a vacation/sabbatical planned and I decided to volunteer with GeoVisions to meet new people.  The connection I made with my family was priceless!”

“Geovisions enabled me to grow as a member of the global community. I learned how to work in different cultures, and I was able to compare and contrast different methods of health care such as the socialist, government run facilities in Malta to our insurance system in America. My political, cultural and economic awareness grew tenfold, and on my return I desired to make more diverse friends. By the time my college career was finished, I had friends from every corner of the world! Diversity helps you grow. You see people from different cultures, learn about said cultures, and become more empathetic to everyone around you. Because of Geovisions, I even decided to partake in some international learning during my graduate education, which I was an,e to set up through the connections I had made while abroad through Geovisions. On job interviews, my global experience was one of the things that made me stand out, I received constant questions asking about my experience. It definitely make me a unique candidate, and I would recommend this for anyone looking to get a more worldly experience.”
